Christopher LaGrand is a Senior Vice President and Corporate Counsel with Woda Cooper Companies. Mr. LaGrand is responsible for supporting and coordinating company activity with a focus on legal, policy, and process issues. He manages and tracks all company legal matters, advocates for affordable housing with elected officials, assists with housing tax credit applications, interfaces with state housing agencies, acts as primary counsel for the company’s management division, including with respect to all fair housing and civil rights matters, and advises the company’s human resources department on employment relations and disputes.
Mr. LaGrand joined Woda Cooper Companies in 2015. Prior to joining Woda Cooper Companies, Mr. LaGrand served as the Chief Housing Investment Officer for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. In such capacity, he supervised the Divisions of Rental Development, Asset Management, and Housing Voucher Programs and Homeless Initiatives, and also acted as the Authority’s Chief Underwriter. During his tenure, Mr. LaGrand supervised the underwriting of over $750 million of multifamily investment in the State of Michigan. Mr. LaGrand has worked in various counsel and staff advisory roles within legislative offices, governmental executive offices and governmental agencies at both the state and federal levels, and has served as a board member for several non-profits. Mr. LaGrand received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Calvin College in 1990 and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan in 1993.
