Fayette Landing in Washington Court House, OH, earns LEED certifications

Westerville, OH, October 5, 2017 — The Woda Group, Inc., is pleased to announce that Fayette Landing, a permanent supportive housing development in Washington Court House, OH, has earned LEED Gold and LEED Silver Certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Fayette Landing was developed in collaboration with the Community Action Commission of Fayette County (CACFC) to better meet the permanent supportive housing needs of homeless, disabled individuals in Washington Court House and the rural Fayette County. CACFC is a non-profit community organization with decades of successful experience in helping individuals overcome poverty through supportive services, housing and economic development.

Fayette Landing, which is comprised of two sites fully renovated by The Woda Group, Inc., offers 35 high-quality, energy efficient rental units with many added amenities. An array of onsite services coordinated through CACFC include transportation; assistance accessing health care, addiction counseling, developmental disabilities services, employment assistance, nutrition and meal services; and other social services.  In addition, CACFC plans social gatherings such as holiday parties and family meals.

“Our organization provides a valuable safety net for vulnerable residents in our area who require specialized supportive services in order to regain safe, comfortable and independent living situations,” said Bambi Baughn, CACFC’s Executive Director.

Fayette Landing’s complex at 719 Rawlings Street, Washington Courthouse, is a combination of new construction and the adaptive reuse of a former nursing home. The new facility consists of 18 high-quality units, including 12 efficiency apartments and six one-bedroom apartments. The site also has a dedicated office and conference room for CACFC case managers and area service providers who support residents. There is a large community room with a kitchen for social gatherings and other group activities and a computer center. The careful redesign and construction for the new facility earned LEED Gold certification.

The second Fayette Landing site is at 2825 US Highway 22 SW, Washington Court House.  Earning LEED Silver, it is a fully renovated property offering 18 attractive and well-designed efficiency apartments. In 1996, the facility was converted from a motel for permanent supportive housing operated by CACFC but was in need of significant renovations to improve the exterior appearance, unit space utilization and overall energy efficiency.  In addition to the apartment units, there is a community room and office for the onsite CACFC supportive services coordinator.

“You would never know it was the same building,” said Baughn. “Woda redesigned the units with a combination desk/dining table and built-ins for storage to give residents more efficient, comfortable living space.”  The property also has various amenities such as a new community room with kitchen, a small office space and a computer center for residents.

All units within Fayette Landing are equipped with new kitchens with Energy Star rated appliances, new bathrooms with no slip tiles, digital thermostats, multi-level shelving, mini blinds, and high speed WiFi internet access.  In addition, both properties have community gardens.

“This property demonstrates the great benefits of collaboration between a for-profit developer, with specialized expertise in adaptive reuse and energy efficient design and construction, and a non-profit, service-focused agency, to ultimately create permanent supportive housing that is highly cost-efficient and effective in supporting the needs of residents,” said Joseph M. “Fayette Landing is an over $4 million investment that would not be possible without the financial support of Community Action Commission of Fayette County, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, The Alliant Company and KeyBank,” added McCabe.

USGBC’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most recognized third-party verification and foremost program for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of green buildings, homes and communities.
