Atz Place in Kendallville, IN, earns
LEED Platinum certification from U.S. Green Builders Council

Westerville, OH, January 30, 2018 — The Woda Group, Inc., is pleased to announce that Atz Place, a new 38-unit affordable senior apartment community in Kendallville, IN, has earned LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Builders Council (USGBC).

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Atz Place is a two-story elevator building with open-concept living spaces, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning, and Energy Star appliances. All units have a patio or balcony, and all have universal design elements. Lifestyle amenities include a large lobby, multipurpose community room with kitchenette, a grandchild room, a fitness room, and laundry. The two-acre site includes raised bed gardens and a gazebo. The new construction revitalizes the abandoned site of the former Atz Ice Cream Shoppe.

An onsite manager oversees day-to-day operations and care of the property, and plans activities for residents. Housing Services Alliance, Inc. (HSA) is assisting to integrate services such as meals, transportation and other supports to serve senior residents.

“We are proud that Atz Place achieved LEED Platinum certification through careful, sustainable site development, and through utilizing construction methods and materials that yield water savings, energy efficiency, and enhanced environmental quality,” said Nick Surak, Vice President of Development for Woda. “The green features at Atz Place will mean our residents enjoy ongoing savings in energy costs and excellent environmental quality in their homes.”

Atz Place was made possible through federal housing tax credits allocated by the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority (IHCDA) with permanent financing in the form of a HOME loan from IHCDA. R4 Capital invested in the housing tax credits and Huntington Bank provided the construction loan. Preferred Building Supply, LLC, Newark, OH, provided a construction donation to the project.
